Nutrition
4 Life was established by Alyson Carter to offer nutritional
and healthy eating advice to clients to help alleviate
any health problems they may be experiencing.
It also aims to be a service providing up to date
information on both general and topical health issues
of the day.
Alyson is a Nutritional Therapist
having graduated from the College
of Naturopathic and Complementary Medicine in
London. She is registered with the Nutritional Therapy
Council (NTC) and is a member of the Complementary
and Natural Healthcare Council (CHNC) and the British
Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy
(BANT). Alyson works out of clinics in Berkhamsted
and Hemel Hempstead and also does home visits. Her
background is retailing, having worked in senior roles
for Debenhams department store for 15 years.
Her first interest in nutrition came from the research
she did into her daughter’s medical problems
when she was a child. Olivia (her daughter) was not
achieving the expected milestones and at the age of
2 and ½ was not talking at all and her communication
skills were minimal. However following a drastic change
in diet and the addition of nutritional supplements,
Olivia’s condition dramatically improved over
the months/years. And at the present age of 15, although
she still has her problems, she is functioning as
a well balanced teenager.
Having discovered the ‘power of food’,
Alyson then trained to become a Nutritional Therapist
and now treats clients with a variety of health concerns
– Irritable bowel, PMT, low energy and weight
loss being the most common. She also has a particular
interest in children’s health, seeing many young
clients with obesity and ‘learning problems’. |
What
is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional Therapy is a complementary
therapy which uses foods and supplements (vitamins and minerals)
to encourage the body’s natural healing. The aim is
to detoxify the body, correct vitamin and mineral deficiencies,
restore healthy digestion and help the client to develop
a positive mental attitude.
Nutritional Therapists believe that many health problems
are caused or aggravated by nutritional deficiencies. Deficiencies
are not always caused by poor diet but may also be due to
infections preventing effective absorption of nutrients
in the body, allergies or excess toxins in the body.
By reviewing client’s symptoms and examining their
family history and eating habits, a Nutritional Therapist
can determine what elements may be missing from the diet.
They then provide an individual diet and supplement plan
specifically designed to overcome their health issues. This
is done through a face to face consultation with the client. |

Nutritional
Consultation
Before the consultation
the client will be asked to fill in a questionnaire, providing
details of diet, symptoms, health history and lifestyle, in
order for an initial assessment of potential issues to be
made. A food diary outlining all food and drink consumed over
a 7 day period will also be completed by the client and both
of these documents will be sent to the therapist before the
actual consultation. During the consultation, further information
will be gathered, and the therapist will outline some of possible
factors likely to be influencing the health problems and will
explain how Nutritional Therapy may be able to help.
A full report of the discussions complete with action plan
will then be forwarded to the client within a couple of working
days.
At the initial consultation, a follow up appointment is made
for 3-4 weeks later when the actions will be reviewed in view
of the progress made by the client.
Further recommendations will then be made, to be reviewed
at a further follow up appointment within another 3-4 weeks.
Long term strategies may also be discussed at this meeting.

Costs
The first consultation costs £60 and lasts 1 hour.
Follow up consultations cost £35 and last 35 minutes.
A detailed report outlining recommendations discussed in
each consultation is included in the cost. These will be
sent to the client by e-mail within 2 working days.
If diagnostic tests and supplements are recommended these
will be charged for separately.
